About Botanical Printing
An Alchemical Collaboration With Nature
So many people are curious about the process of botanical printing. We have had botanical prints labeled as photography, silk painting, stencil, batik and other misconceptions. Botanical printing actually uses real leaves and flowers and through special mordanting and natural dye techniques coaxes the plant material's natural structure and inherent dyes onto a cellulose or protein substrate (cotton, linen, hemp, silk, leather, and wool). Here is a short pictorial explanation of how we do it!. I hope you enjoy the tour of the basics.
